“State of Unity” is to be built in the memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who has made tremendous contribution in restoring the peace across the nation after independence.
Here are 10 most fascinating facts of the “Statue of Unity”:
1. The statue will have steel framing, reinforced cement concrete, and bronze coating. As Vallabhai Patel is well known as “Iron Man of India”, to symbolise this, they will be collecting few kilograms of metal from every village which is to be used as part of the material in the construction of the statue.
2. The project cost is estimated to be Rs. 2063 crore. It will take 56 months to complete the project, 15 months for planning, 40 months for construction and two months for handing over by the consortium.
3. The Statue will be a whopping 182 meters tall. It will be spread in 19,500 sq.meter of project area, will be surrounded by an enormous man-made lake spread across 12 kms of area.

5. The statue is to be built at the Sadhu-Bet Island, approximately 3.5kms south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia in the Narmada district of Gujarat. The stateliness of this grand monument will be heightened by a beautiful background. Its unique location will prove to be beneficial for eco-tourism and regional development.
6. The Statue of Unity Project will also include a unique museum and audio-visual department depicting the life and times of Sardar Vallabhbai Patel. A research centre dedicated to the research and development of subjects close to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s heart like Good Governance and Agriculture Development.

Visitors will be able to rise up to the height of the structure’s head, walk into a viewing gallery and enjoy a panoramic view of the Sardar Sarovar Nigam project and the surrounding region from an astounding height of close to 400ft.
9. Special boats will be employed to access the statue and its surrounding. World’s fastest elevators will be at work to keep the visitor’s tour delighting.
10. The observation deck at 500ft can accommodate 200 people at a time. Also, a “state-of-the-art” Underwater Aquarium will be built.
